As Civil & Structural engineers for the Stockton Waterfront Urban Park, we played a key role in delivering the complex infrastructure that reconnects Stockton High Street with the River Tees. Central to the scheme is the landmark land bridge spanning Riverside Road, creating uninterrupted pedestrian access between the town centre and waterfront. Our involvement included the design and coordination of major structural elements associated with the bridge such at the 7m bridge abutments and retaining structures, highway realignment works and the terraced amphitheatre, helping transform a former dated retail site into a nationally significant public realm destination.
The project required innovative engineering solutions to accommodate significant level changes across the site, including the creation of a new road tunnel, extensive retaining structures and integrated public spaces. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Ryder Architecture and Esh Construction, we helped deliver a resilient and accessible waterfront park that combines event spaces, landscaping, play facilities and civic infrastructure, supporting the long-term regeneration of Stockton town centre and strengthening its connection to the River Tees.
