Having stood empty since 1997, Stockton Council had the ambition to bring this Art Deco building back to life with a full refurbishment and extension. The grade II listed building has been made in to a venue fit for modern day performances which can cater for 3000 spectators.
BGP was involved in all civil and structural aspects of the complex restoration including a 26m monopitched trussed roof spanning over the top of the existing, a 6 storey extension to one side to house the dressing rooms and offices, all necessary support steelwork for stage and theatre production as well as a 250 capacity venue next door providing bar and toilet facilities directly linked to the main theatre.
The scheme won the Large Projects Award at the IStructE Northern Counties Awards dinner 2021.
